Mass Transportation

There are some people who believe that mass transportation is a waste of time. There are also those who believe that without mass transportation, the world would be in a lot of trouble due to all of the global warming and poisonous gases that are being expelled into the air. For the vast majority of people, mass transportation is a significantly more affordable way to get around from place to place. From trains to buses to taxi cabs to ride share programs, mass transportation provides people with another option outside of driving their own vehicles.

Besides the obvious benefit of saving you money that you would otherwise spend on gasoline, mass transportation also saves car owners on putting a ton of wear and tear on their vehicles. For example, my uncle works for a financial firm located in New Jersey. In the meantime, he lives in the suburbs of Long Island. In order to get to work, when my uncle first started working for his current company, he attempted to get to work by driving there every day. However, the long commute (it was approximately a two hour commute) coupled with the fact that he had to sit in traffic (my uncle has no patience) quickly became too much for him. On top of this, he was putting all of those extra miles on his car. Instead, he switched to taking the train and immediately loved it. When I asked him why he preferred to take the train versus driving, he said that it was because he could just sit back and read a book or nap on his way to work versus have to fight traffic for two hours only to have to fight traffic for two hours on the way back. And my uncle is not alone in his thinking.

Millions of people take advantage of mass transportation each and every year because of the money that it saves them in vehicle expenses. However, there are some disadvantages of taking mass transit. For instance, when you take mass transportation, you are dependent on someone else to get you where you need to go on time. Not only this, but when you use mass transit, you also have to take into account the fact that you often need to factor in more time to your schedule. For example, if you are taking the train, you need to leave yourself enough time to go to the train station to find a parking spot and then purchase a train ticket. If you don’t do this, then you may find yourself taking your own car to work.

In addition to allowing more time in your schedule, you must also take into account the fact that when you use mass transit, you must also dress accordingly. It is not uncommon to see women and men bring an extra pair of shoes with them. They will sometimes leave the house wearing a pair of sneakers or “walking shoes,” carrying their work shoes with them in their hands or in a bag because when they get off of the bus or off of the train, they then have to walk several blocks to get to their job. For some people, mass transit makes sense. In order to figure out whether or not it will be something that works out for you, you must first figure out what your current lifestyle is as well as where you live geographically.
